Subject: 08.05.25 Postdoc position at the Centre for Theoretical and Computational Chemistry (Tromsoe, Norway)
The University of Tromsoe has a position vacant as post doctoral research fellow in
theoretical and computational chemistry. The position of post doctoral research fellow position is
for a fixed term of three years.
For further information please contact the centre leader Professor Kenneth Ruud, telephone:
+47 77623101, email: ruud..chem.uit.no
The Faculty consists of: Department of Biology, Department of Physics and Technology,
Department of Geology, Department of Computer Science, Department of Chemistry, Department
of Mathematics and Statistics and Tromsoe Geophysical Observatory.
The position is connected to the Department of Chemistry, The Centre for Theoretical and
Computational Chemistry (CTCC).
The post doctoral research fellow will have her/his daily work at the University of Tromsoe.
The CTCC is a Norwegian Centre of Excellence, established by the Research Council of Norway
in 2007 as a partnership of the University of Oslo and the University of Tromsoe. When fully
operational from 2008, the CTCC will comprise about 40 scientists, post-doctoral fellows and
PhD students in the fields of theoretical and computational chemistry and physics, as well as
applied mathematics.
The CTCC research activities are twofold: (a) the development of quantum-chemistry methods
for the calculation of molecular and condensed-state energies and properties using a broad
range of methodologies such as linear-scaling and periodic-boundary condition methods,
multiwavelet basis functions and subsystem optimization, and (b) the application of quantum
chemistry to problems in gas-phase reactions and photochemistry, bioinorganic chemistry,
catalysis and reaction dynamics, often in connection with ongoing experimental work. The
scientific activities at the CTCC are detailed at the homepage of the centre,
http://www.ctcc.no.
The CTCC seeks a highly qualified post doctoral research fellow with a background in the
application of quanum-chemical methods to important chemistry problems. The CTCC welcomes
applicants with expertise in one or more areas of research conducted at the centre. In the case
that several applicants have similar qualifications, applicants with a background in the
modelling of catalytic processes in inorganic/bioinorganic chemistry will be ranked before other
candidates. Candidates with these backgrounds are particularly encouraged to apply.
A Norwegian doctoral degree (or an equivalent international doctoral degree) is a prerequisite for
appointment in the position of post doctoral research fellow.
The successful applicant must be willing to engage himself/herself in the ongoing development
of his/her discipline and the university as a whole.
The working time will be set aside for research, research-related activities and research
administration.
The remuneration for the position of post doctoral research fellow is in accordance with the
State wage scale code 1352 (approximately 410000 NOK/year). A compulsory contribution of
2% will be made to the State Pension Fund.
The main objective of appointments to positions of post doctoral research fellows is to qualify
the appointee for employment in scientific top positions.
Applications must be accompanied by a proposal for the qualifying work and shall include a work
schedule. Appointments are made on the understanding that the appointee shall complete
his/her project within the contract term.
A plan shall be drawn up showing how the project that forms the basis for the appointment in
the position of post doctoral research fellow shall be implemented. The plan shall form part of
(an appendix to) the employment contract for the fixed term and shall cover the project
description and work schedule. The plan shall also state who is responsible for providing
academic supervision. The person responsible for providing academic supervision and the
employee both have a duty to report to the employer in case of inadequate implementation of
the plan.
Applications will be assessed by an expert committee. The main emphasis will be placed on
assessment of the submitted scientific works. Information and material to be considered must
be submitted within the closing date for applications. Details of references must be provided.
The applicant must submit a list of all his/her scientific works including details of publication.
The application is to be submitted electronically on the application form available at:
jobbnorge.no (
http://www.jobbnorge.no/visstilling2.aspx?stillid=48430)
In addition, the application, including CV, certified copies of diplomas and references, form
regarding teaching qualifications (if applicable) and the list of scientific works are to be sent in
five copies within the closing date for applications (June 16 2008), directly to:
Faculty of Science
University of Tromso
NO-9037 Tromso
NORWAY
The application should be marked by "Ref.08-2063". All documentation that is to be evaluated
